Magically make it appear as if smoke is rising from your fingertips. This is a neat trick that might be handy for killing time when sitting at the bar, for a party, or even a play. Follow the steps to have smoke appearing to come from your very fingertips.

Please note: This trick should only be attempted by adults and it should be done away from any flammable objects or coverings.

Steps

  1. Gather the materials. These are listed below. Have a bowl or jug of water on standby, just in case. Remove or roll up any clothing that is loose or dangling around the wrist, hand, and finger regions.
  2. Remove the striker from the side of the matchbox. Either cut it away, or gently tear it from the box.
  3. Fold the striker in half. Fold it hot dog style, and have the cardboard facing on the outside.
  4. Place the striker in an ashtray. Place it with the cardboard side facing upwards.
  5. Light the striker part. Use a lighter to start the fire.
    • Burn it for a little while.
  6. Push the burnt out striker part aside. The brown residue is left in the ashtray.
  7. Wipe the residue off the ashtray with a finger.
  8. Rub your fingers against each other. You should see the smoke appear, and it will look as if it is "coming out of your fingers". The effect will last a long while but you can add more residue if you wish to continue the trick for longer.
  9. Be sure to get the residue off with good scrubbing

Tips

  • If you are doing this indoors, try to do it with the bathroom door closed so that your fire alarm doesn't go off. It is probably best done outdoors.
  • Don't worry, the black residue on the ashtray will come off.
  • You can also try burning the striker on a faucet or in the sink in the bathroom.

Warnings

  • The residue from the striker contains a harmful residue that must be washed off immediately after the trick is performed. Do not place your fingers in your mouth or anywhere on your face until you have thoroughly washed off the residue with soap and hot water.
  • Be extremely careful with fire. Remove all flammable objects from around the area and take care with loose clothing.

Things You'll Need

  • A striker from a matchbox
  • An ashtray
  • A lighter
  • Water on hand for dampening the flame if needed
  • Soap and water for cleaning

8 Ideas for a Romantic Evening on a Budget

Posted:

Finding something new and interesting to do for your date night can be a challenge. It's so easy to get stuck in a rut or to avoid date night altogether because you think you need to spend a fortune to have a good time. This simply isn't true. Follow this plan for your next romantic evening, and both your sweetie and your wallet will thank you!

Steps

  1. Read the advice in How to Be Romantic. Even the most "romantic" evening will be boring and perhaps even unpleasant if you don't enter into it with a romantic attitude.
  2. Begin the evening by cooking your favorite meal together. Make it fun and playful. Maybe cook in only an apron? Put on some of your favorite music, too. Or, if you'd like to treat your significant other who normally does the cooking, follow the advice in How to Cook For Your Girlfriend. Let your sweetie sit back and relax while you cook--perhaps you can prepare a bath for him or her to soak in while waiting. Create a romantic ambiance with mood lighting, candles, your best dishes, and exquisite glasses. Then sit back, relax and enjoy each other's company and the meal you created.
  3. Follow up dinner with a romantic walk around the neighborhood or go to a local park, beach or nature preserve. Taking a walk will give you the chance to continue enjoying each other while enjoying the scenery. And the exercise will help you work off your dinner.
  4. Stargaze together. If it's warm enough outside, bring a few blankets and a thermos with a warm drink inside and look for constellations. If you time it properly, you might even be able to watch a meteor shower.
  5. Clear your living room floor, put on some music, and dance. You can slow dance, or boogie, burlesque dance, or even try some break dancing moves, if you're feeling crazy!
  6. Watch movies together. Look for movies that you'll both enjoy. Get them at the library, where you can rent them for free or at low cost. Cuddle up together under a cozy blanket and make hot chocolate or tea if it's cold outside. If it's warm, make iced tea or a special cocktail. Burn some incense or scented candles to improve the ambiance.
  7. Play board and card games. A little playful competitiveness will make things more fun. You can also add twists by saying "If I win this game, you have to do --- for me."
  8. Remember that massages are relaxing, intimate, and free. All you really need is massage oil, but in a pinch you can always use lotion, bare hands, or even vegetable oil.

Tips

  • Asking someone to take your children for this night is a must. It can be difficult to get in the mood when you have kids running around, potentially interrupting at inopportune moments. If money is an issue, offer to swap babysitting with another couple. Each of you will get a kid-free evening without paying a sitter and you'll be helping someone else get a night of romance too!
  • If you both like camping, spending a night in the wilderness can be quite romantic and very affordable.
  • If there are free fireworks on offer, these can be a great way to spend a romantic evening together, with a picnic meal and a comfortable blanket.
